Day 14: My happy place

Sunday was a day of rest in Shiprock.  After our 160km ride the day before, it was nice to avoid the bike for one day.

We were staying at Bethel CRC, primarily a Navajo congregation.  After enjoying a slightly later morning sleeping in their Sunday school room, we had a leisurely breakfast.

A few of us were sitting behind the church when we noticed a group of women cooking Navajo fry bread for our lunch meal.  Of course a new food adventure intrigued me, and I politely asked if they would teach me what they were doing.  Much hilarity ensued, and eventually a whole group of people were helping and learning.  The Navajo women were so proud, and so willing to laugh and play with us.

We learned the following: if you can make a perfect circle of fry bread you will be a good in-law.  If your circle has fat "lips" on the edges, you are a good kisser.  Friends, I am apparently a good kisser and a bad in-law!

The end result: Navajo tacos.

Our other event on Sunday was a brief trip to the "four corners" where Utah, Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona meet.
